Our vegie garden

Our vegie patch is looking sensational. And it seems to do better when we aren't around. We arrived home yesterday after a couple of days away at Bundeena to see an absolute ABUNDANCE of tomatos growing happily. Nothing staked, all over the place, but totally happy. Managed to stake most of them off the ground without too much damage. We also have great broccoli, spinach, a variety of lettuces, beetroot, dill, beans, cucumber, peas, pumpkin, carrots, zucchini, celery and tons of herbs.

I think today we might plant more beetroot, some radishes and a couple more sunflowers. I have 2 down the side of the house taking off and I think the garden would like more.

Our vegie patch taking off in December 2012

I'm never good with seeds and much prefer seedlings. Yes, they are more expensive but little feet (of which we have two sets here) are very good at trampling delicate little green shoots coming up. But we have the seeds so will just go for it. Plenty of staking I think is the only way to go. The little people here love picking beans and peas straight from the vines and munching away.

With extreme bushfire warnings and high temps last week, plus a couple of foggy, misty, wet days - our plants seem happy...
